Bulacan Dengue Cases up by more than 100%



MALOLOS – The number of dengue cases in the province of Bulacan has more than doubled this year.

Ivy Zafra, information officer of the provincial health office, said yesterday that from Jan. 1 to Aug. 15 this year, they recorded a total of 2,622 cases, or more than 100 percent highter than the 1,115 cases in the same period last year.

Four patients from San Rafael town have been  reported dead from the mosquito-borne disease.

In June this year, records showed that dengue cases in Bulacan reached 848.

The figure showed that from June to August, the province recorded 1,774 dengue cases.
In the first half of the year, most of the cases were reported in the towns of Balagtas, Calumpit, Guiguinto, Hagonoy, Marilao, San Rafael  and Santa Maria, and in the cities of San Jose del Monte, Malolos and Meycauayan.

In Guiguinto, Mayor Ambrocio Cruz ordered municipal health officer Prima Leah Chua to launch anti-dengue campaigns in the villages.

Chua said from January to mid-August this year, they recorded 90 dengue cases, higher than the 70 cases they recorded in the same period last year.
